Question/Comment:
Our vision for the ‘Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy’ stemmed from a desire to enhance the diagnostic and treatment skills of chiropractic physicians and track outcomes of care. Outcome based care will win at the end of the day, and our profession is at a very critical juncture. We must be able to prove our effectiveness in outcomes or we will be phased out of the future of health care. That means being able to standardize the diagnosis and treatment among our doctors and track the outcome of their care - collectively. I am happy to say a successful model has been created and we are ready to expand the offering of this academy to the profession. It is our vision to literally flood the literature with outcome studies in a timely manner that proves what we see every day in our practices.

My colleagues and I also agreed we needed not only a way we could learn from each other during the process but also a solid source upon which to build our curriculum. We were impressed with Dr. Thomas Souza’s book “Differential Diagnosis and Management for the Chiropractor”. We wondered if he was still alive, so we “Googled” him and found out he was not only alive but well! Our conversations and dialogue with him led us down an exciting path: a path that brings our doctors into a new level of diagnostic acumen, a new level of effectiveness in care and a regeneration of the great relationships we can have as a family that will no doubt last a lifetime. We were pleasantly surprised by the latter as an outcome of this process. If you are looking for purpose in practice and are willing to be part of this revolution in finally validating our profession through outcomes, make an investment in yourself & enlist in the Academy. You won’t regret it.
Scott Munsterman, DC, Brookings SD

The Academy was presented during our 2010 Spring Conference and 2011 Mid-Winter Gathering so I had the opportunity to participate in this program and not only is it a quality educational program, it also allows doctors to dialogue with each other in a manner not available in most seminars.  Experienced doctors are able to share the knowledge they have gained from their years in practice and younger doctors are able to share the latest information they received while in chiropractic school.  It is truly an interactive learning experience that increases the clinical skills of the doctors and brings the profession closer together.

President, North Dakota Chiropractic Association

The Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy was presented during the 2010 South Dakota Chiropractors Association Spring and Fall Conferences so I had the opportunity to participate in the Academy. The Academy is a quality education program that provides information and training the attendees can use when they get back to their practices on Monday morning. The small group, round table case study sessions allow the doctors who have been in practice a while to share the knowledge they have gained from their years in practice, while allowing the younger doctors to share the latest information they received while in chiropractic school. Plus, you aren't having to sit and listen to one person speak all weekend.
Because of the highly interactive nature of the Academy I also observed an increased camaraderie among the attendees. The doctors were interacting more as colleagues, rather than competitors, even if they practice in the same community. This is helpful not only to our association but to our profession as well.  I would highly recommend the Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy.
Josh Biberdorf, DC, Rapic City, SD
President, South Dakota Chiropractors Association

As a participant in the inaugural, pilot program for "Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy", interacting with colleagues with clinical case studies was a refreshing experience, sharing experiences we have had in the clinical setting. I am grateful for and I look forward to continuing to grow these new collegial friendships. In this health-care transitional environment we are all currently in, this program was also very helpful in refining my diagnostic accuracy, and assisting in clinical decision making with challenging clinical presentations. Exposure to new orthopedic and functional tests which are supported in the literature was very useful for a longtime practitioner. This program would be an excellent choice for any doctor interested in improving his or her clinical expertise and for enhancing their professional image in the environment in which they practice.

This seminar is invaluable. It provides you with the "gold standard" in history, exam, diagnosis and treatment options, along with networking with your colleagues. It has helped propel my practice and my clinical expertise ahead of what I expected. The friendships and camaraderie that have been cultivated are also beyond any of my expectations. It has helped me re-energize my practice and validates everything I do. It’s a must for all practicing Chiropractors.
David Fisher DC CCST DACRB, Duluth MN

The Best Practices Academy was one of the best seminars I have ever attended. There were no doctors reading the newspaper or playing on their computers, all of the doctors in attendance were there to learn. The interaction among the attendees during the small group discussions was tremendous. I was able to use the information from the case studies and lecture as soon as I returned to my clinic on Monday morning. Plus, the resource information that I received is invaluable. It was also very exciting to see actual outcome data that was gathered from the doctors in the seminar. I highly recommend this seminar!

I have been looking for a new spark to my practice and love for chiropractic for a few years. We all have a tendency to stagnate and not keep up on our new educational interests. I had the pleasure of speaking with a couple classmates, Dr. Scott Munsterman and Dr. Doug Caron, who encouraged me to look to Chiropractic Associates of South Dakota and the new, visionary work they where doing with the South Dakota DC's and the reimbursement that was associated with that credentialing.

This led me to enroll and be a part of the introductory sessions for Best Practices Academy. The work that Dr. Souza has placed before us, the challenging use of our skills as a clinician, the protocols used to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and the care that is and could be provided, has improved my doctoring skills immensely. Best Practices has given the Chiropractic profession a standard of care to rank with any Medical practitioner as second to none.It has also giving me confidence that the diagnosis I arrive at is correct and accurate and that the care I am providing the best care possible to my patients.

I highly recommend any DC attend the Best Practices Academy and sharpen their clinical skills and assist the chiropractic profession in a leadership role in the new age of modern health care. The US will be looking for new, cost effective health care professionals for the future. Best Practices Academy is the answer for DC's interested in solidifying their practice and the chiropractic profession to advance its image in the HealthCare field.

Dr. Tom Souza, Dr. John Carr, Dr. Wayne Carr, Dr. Joe Carr, and Dr. Scott Munsterman are not only fine teaching clinicians, they are also people of great character and integrity in the chiropractic profession. All of us love the chiropractic profession, these Dr's are helping us build it up.I highly recommend any DC to challenge themselves and enroll and see for yourself. I will do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks Best Practices for giving me back that spark for my love of Chiropractic.
David Kreps, DCDilworth (Moorhead) MN

The 'clinical pearls' gained from networking with other like minded doctors has allowed me to go back and look at some of my difficult cases differently and solve them.
David Eggers, DC, Brookings SD

The Best Practices Academy is a very refreshing approach to improving your clinical diagnostic skills. The limited class size and course structure allowed attendees to share with each other their practical experiences and approaches both in diagnostic/ testing and the clinical chiropractor care. With health care costs increasing, the provider’s care is becoming more economically driven. We must show how chiropractic can be a pace setter in both efficiency of care and in desirable outcomes. To do this the chiropractor must be equipped with the best diagnostic skills and clinical capabilities. The Best Practice Academy provided this in their very concentrated, no-nonsense, and well structured seminar.
Donn J Fahrendorf DC, Sioux Falls SD

One of the best chiropractic diagnostic seminar symposiums I have attended in my 30 years of practice!

The level of professionalism that I saw at the Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy was inspiring and a breath of fresh air. I especially enjoyed the camaraderie among a group of doctors who are dedicated to a cause higher and more noble than there own personal gain. These doctors, simply put, want to improve their knowledge and clinical skills to deliver a better service to their patients and elevate their profession by doing so. I applaud the Academy for wanting our profession to achieve better standards of care and for teaching a program to allow doctors to accomplish it.
Kyle Pankonin, DC, Lamberton, MN

After attending the Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy put on by CAMN in December I came away excited that they are genuinely committed to improving clinical skills, clinical decision making, and optimal patient management. I feel they have great insight into how the chiropractic practitioners can effectively be included in the third party payor system at a reasonable level of reimbursement. I am hopeful that CAMN's vision for chiropractic in Minnesota becomes reality.
Art Volker, DC, Cambridge, MN

The Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy seminars are of the highest quality continuing education I have taken in a long time. The topics are pertinent and up-to-date and I appreciated learning from experienced doctors through the clinical pearls modules. If you want to get Continuing Education and really learn, I would recommend these seminars.
Martin Caron, DC, St. Paul, MN

The Best Practices in Chiropractic Academy brings together the latest research into an easy to follow format that you can implement in your practice on Monday morning. Helping just one patient with the protocols you learn could lead to two or more referrals that would pay for the course. One of the best parts of the course is being able to talk over cases with your colleagues, which is rare in chiropractic since so many of us are in solo practices.
Bryan Dingsor, DC, Watertown, SD

I wanted to let you know how thankful I am for being part of the Best Practices Academy. It has improved my documentation as well as case planning by evaluating the differential diagnosis. The tools that were provided have streamlined the process in addition to making it more precise. I would recommend this course to any Chiropractic Physician, it will take your practice to the next level.
Roger Prill, DC, Mitchell, SD

In my 12 years of practice, I have never been to a seminar filled with so much useful information from start to finish. Not only from the lectures, but also from the "clinical pearls," as well as the interaction with a diverse group of Doctors in attendance. Most, if not all of the information, can be used Monday morning.
Jeffrey R. Kramer, DC, Tripp, SD

Being in practice over 20 years can create complacency, which I find was happening to me. What Best Practice did for me was restore my confidence that I hadn't lost what I was taught in school as well as give me ways of doing things better, while staying ahead of the curve in health care. The instructors have done an incredible amount of work to make the Best Practice Academy professional and relevant and the fellowship and camaraderie with other doctors during the program was extremely worthwhile. I would recommend the Best Practice Academy to anyone seeking to enhance their knowledge and enhance the profession of Chiropractic.
Timothy J. Rabb, DC, F.A.C.O., F.I.A.M.A, Sioux Falls, SD

It was a great environment for learning. I enjoyed learning from my colleagues as well as Dr. Souza. I use what I have learned every day in my practice. I have a renewed sense of urgency for my patients and profession. Although having a busy practice I have a sense that things are a little easier now.
Bill Blickensderfer, DC, Rapid City, SD

Please congratulate the Academy founders, facilitating doctors and staff for one of the best seminars that I have attended in 26 years of practice. The interactive agenda with fellow chiropractors was priceless and the information now available to the attendees is concise and pertinent to our practices. Thanks again for a job exceedingly well done!
Jim Schwietert, DC, Rapid City, SD

Thank you for a great program. As we had discussed we as chiropractors do not collaborate as we should. This program helps us to look at each other as colleagues first and competitors second. I really liked the exam forms and chief complaint forms that were used in the examples. Thanks again.
Rob Hasse, DC, Fargo, ND

I would like to personally extend my thanks and gratitude to your entire team of presenters and facilitators. I’ve practiced in SD for 25 years and I can’t begin to tell you how nice it was to see our profession unite around the table (pun intended). Very impressive. Thanks again for the time, talent and treasures invested by many in this venture!
